Hanging your curtains

On unpacking your curtains or valance there may be some creases or pressure marks. These will normally fall out quickly after hanging in a warm room. Alternatively, the curtains may be lightly ironed with a warm dry iron on the reverse side (hems and sides should not be pressed). Steam or excessive pressure or temperature should be avoided as these can stretch or shrink the fabric.

Caring for your curtains

Cleaning
Recommended cleaning instructions for each fabric are shown on the website. Simply select the relevant fabric to see the care instructions. Please note these care instructions relate to the fabric and unlined curtains only. All lined or trimmed products should always be dry cleaned. A care leaflet is included with all curtain orders and a care label is sewn under the curtain heading.

Shrinkage
For washable fabrics a shrinkage of up to 5% may occur if washing instructions are followed. To reduce the possibility, washable fabrics should be hand-washed, drip dried and ironed in a lengthways direction before fully dry. Shrinkage in any fabric can be minimised if your curtains are dry cleaned. A guide to hanging and caring for your curtains is enclosed with all orders. We recommend that this is kept for future reference.

Net curtains
should be hand washed at regular intervals. Before washing shake off any dust and then immerse into lukewarm water with detergent (not bleach based). Net curtain whitener can help restore net curtains to their original brightness. Do not use a bleaching agent. The curtains should be left to drip dry and can be ironed on a cool temperature if needed.

Measuring for curtain width

Always measure the curtain track or pole width, not the window. If fitting a new track or pole, this should extend 15cm to 30cm either side of the window (to allow the curtains to be stacked back off the window) and 12cm to 15cm above the window recess.

If you have a rail with a centre overlap, measure the rail as above then measure the overlap and add the two measurements together.

Measuring for curtain drop

Curtains are best hung either to the floor, to a sill or below the sill. We recommend that curtains finish either:-

a) 1cm above the floor
b) 15-20cm below the sill (or 2cm above the radiator)
c) 1cm above the sill

Always measure in at least 3 positions across the track or pole as floors and sills are rarely level. To avoid curtains dragging across the floor or sill we recommend you use the shortest of these 3 measurements.

Pencil Pleat heading
When using a curtain track, measure from the top of the track to where the curtain is to finish. When using a curtain pole, measure from the underside of the decorative ring to where you want the curtain to finish.

Tab Top heading
Tab Top headings have 10cm long tabs (included in the curtain drop) and are suitable for poles up to 45mm in diameter. Measure from the top of the pole to where you want the curtains to finish.

Eyelet heading
The eyelet will fit poles up to 30mm in diameter. The inner edge of the eyelet is set down 3cm from the top of the curtain. Measure from the top of the pole to where you want the curtains to finish and add 3cm.
Fullness or 'gather' as it is sometimes referred to is the width of material used in each curtain or net. You'll notice in the pictures on Net Curtain Corner that the nets do not lie flat against the window; they have soft folds or ridges - this is what we refer to as Fullness - the greater the fullness the more folds and ridges. We recommend double fullness as the minimum. If however you are looking for a more contemporary feel with a 'flat' look you should opt for the exact width of fabric for the window or door. Fullness adds greater privacy.
